OKX Account Registration and Verification Explained (Vietnam, 2026)
Legal notice: since 1 September 2026, under Decree 284/2026/ND-CP, individuals in Vietnam who trade crypto-assets other than through a provider licensed by the Ministry of Finance can be fined 30–50 million dong. Binance, OKX and Bybit are not licensed in Vietnam. coinglee provides price information for reference only.
OKX registration starts with one decision that shapes everything after it: the country or region you live in. Then come an email and phone code, a password, and identity verification with a chip ID card (CCCD) or passport, a selfie and sometimes proof of address. For people living in Vietnam, the legal position comes first. Since 1 September 2026, trading crypto-assets in Vietnam other than through a provider licensed by the Ministry of Finance can be fined 30–50 million dong (Decree 284/2026/ND-CP), and OKX is not licensed in Vietnam. See Vietnam crypto regulation 2026.
This guide explains how the OKX account process works and how to protect an existing account. coinglee shows no sign-up links or referral codes for Vietnam.
The first screen: country or region

OKX pre-selects a country from your internet connection, which can be wrong, especially on a VPN. The choice decides which OKX entity and terms apply and must match the residence you verify later. Picking another country to get through the form is a common reason for rejected verification and frozen accounts.
The rest of registration
- Email code. A 6-digit code, valid for 10 minutes.
- Phone code. With +84 selected, a Vietnamese number is entered without its leading 0. Another 6-digit code, valid for 10 minutes.
- Password. A mix of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols.
- Referral code. Only accepted on the sign-up form; it can’t be added afterwards.
How identity verification works
On the website it starts at profile icon → Verification; in the app at Menu → Account settings → Identity verification. OKX asks for:
- Basic information: country of residence, nationality, full name, date of birth, ID number, ID type and residential address.
- ID photos: a valid government ID with all corners visible.
- A selfie inside the oval frame, without mask, glasses or hat.
- Proof of address, if requested: a document showing your current address issued within the last 3 months (6 months in the EEA).
OKX says applications are reviewed within 24 hours. Until then the account is restricted, though withdrawals still work.
Names on a Vietnamese CCCD
The CCCD prints names in capitals with diacritics (TRẦN VĂN BÌNH). Forms and bank details usually use the same name without diacritics (TRAN VAN BINH), in the same order and spacing. The verified name and the name on any payment account must match.
Common reasons for rejection
| Cause | What it means |
|---|---|
| Country at sign-up differs from residence | The account was opened under the wrong entity; contact support, don’t open a second account |
| Blurry photo or cut-off corners | The document must be fully legible |
| Expired CCCD or passport | Not accepted |
| Address proof too old or in someone else’s name | Must be recent and in the account holder’s name |
| Someone else’s identity | Borrowed or bought accounts get frozen |
Security every OKX account needs
Under Security in the account settings:
- Authenticator app. Keep the backup key offline; never share or screenshot it.
- Anti-phishing code, so real OKX emails can be told from fakes.
- Withdrawal address whitelist.
- Device and login history. Remove anything you don’t recognise.
If you already have an OKX account
- Don’t lend, sell or share it. The verified person is responsible for its activity.
- Keep your phone number and email current while you still control the old ones.
- An unexpected verification code means someone may be trying to log in: change the password and check devices.
- P2P in Vietnam carries bank-freeze risks; read bank account frozen after P2P and how to trade P2P safely.
If you lose the phone with your authenticator
This is the most common way people get locked out. Before it happens, store the authenticator’s backup key somewhere offline, such as written down at home, so you can restore the codes on a new phone. If you’ve already lost it, use OKX’s own reset process from the login page. It asks for identity checks and may hold withdrawals for a period afterwards. Never pay a “recovery agent” who contacts you on Telegram or Zalo; they are scammers.
What licensing would change
Under the Resolution 05/2025 pilot, only licensed providers may run crypto trading platforms in Vietnam. International exchanges such as OKX can’t be licensed in their current form. Until licensed providers operate, using an unlicensed exchange carries the fines above. coinglee will update this guide when that changes.
Process checked against OKX’s help pages on registration and identity verification on 4 October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
